09 November. Brackley. A meeting of senior executives at the Mercedes Formula 1 team has taken place to set a date for the team to stop congratulating itself.
Following on from yet another double world championship win, the team have been on a full on back slapping campaign, involving tweets showing team members in victory t-shirts, car and trophy collections, more inspirational hashtags than you can shake a stick at and of course, the annual video featuring the factory ‘staircase of smugness’.
Team management were said to be concerned that they would soon be running out of self-congratulatory guff to tweet such as “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team” and “Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life” but were reassured by their PR department that they could continue churning it out for a good few weeks yet.
Said a source close to the team:
“It is thought that they can go on congratulating themselves for at least another month, so they plan to stop doing it in mid-December, do a bit more around Christmas before working on an even bigger plan for banging on about how brilliant they are in 2020″
