30 August. New York. The announcement yesterday of a bumper 22 race F1 season for 2020 has been revealed to be just the start of a huge expansion in the sport.
Having paid what some see as a well over the odds sum for the sport, F1 owners, Liberty Media, are keen to recoup on their investment and that can only be done by having more races.
Industry analyst Crispin Swithers this morning told this website his understanding of the plans.
“Bernie Ecclestone pulled a bit of a blinder in getting Liberty to pay so much for F1 and they now realise that he may have stitched them up and that even 22 races won’t be enough for them”
“It may mean teams have to employ a few extra people but our logistical analysis shows that a 52 race season, naturally with all races back-to-back, is perfectly feasible and is under consideration from as soon as 2021”
We asked Liberty for a comment but had received no reply at the time of going to press.
