08 APR. Celebrations to mark what was going to be the 1,000th round of the Formula One World Championship, at this weekends Chinese Grand Prix, have been thrown into disarray.
Leading motorsport historian, Dr Adrian Fleckle, has discovered that F1 has missed race number 1,000 with that being held last time out in Bahrain.
Shanghai will therefore be race number 1,001.
Dr Fleckle told us this morning:
“On checking, it would appear that the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix was, because of the four hour duration with a two hour break in the middle, under F1 rule 20.1 sub section 23, two separate races”
“Therefore, we have already had race number 1,000, so any celebration this weekend would be utterly pointless”
At the time of going to press, we were yet to receive a response from race organisers or Liberty Media about the claim.
