Lotus have gone to the dogs

Lotus have gone to the dogs

Forget Ferrari and ‘Fernando-Is-Faster-Than-You-Gate’, new boys Lotus are in a whole heap of trouble with the authorities over ‘SheepdogGate’. A photograph leaked onto the Internet (left) of the team being addressed by owner Tony Fernandes, clearly show’s that one of… the employees is an Old English Sheepdog.

The dog, Max, apparently works in the composites department alongside several human colleagues. FIA Sporting Regulation 112.4b, sub-section C, says that ‘all team members must be of the human species’ which Max, clearly is not.

A Lotus team spokesman told us today; “Max is an integral part of the team and while his hair sometimes fouls up the wiring loom we simply cannot afford to lose him, this is Norfolk you know, have you any idea how hard it is to find human life here?”

Lotus are hopeful the FIA will let Max stay as there is a precedent for this, with Sauber once employing a cat in their wind tunnel, while HRT are currently believed to employ a goldfish called Kevin as their chief aerodynamicist.

Rubens is a champion at last!

Rubens is a champion at last!

Nineteen years after he won the British F3 Championship, Williams driver Rubens Barrichello is celebrating another title here in Canada.

Barrichello was last night crowned champion in the Celebrity Sushi Eating Championship, held for the first time in a Formula 1… paddock, after wolfing down two pounds of the Japanese snack in 3min 12secs.

The plucky Brazilian saw off stiff competition from local boy Jacques Villeneuve, who spun on a piece of Gunkanmaki early on and fellow F1 foodie, Timo Glock, who having had a Medieval banquet for lunch had to retire with just a small Fugu and a cucumber wrap to go.

Williams go looney for Rooney!

Williams go looney for Rooney!

The Williams F1 team are really getting into the spirit of the World Cup and have placed a flag of St George on the roof of their pit wall communication centre, which they hope to keep there for the weekend… or at least until an official with taste spots it.

However, there was shock during first practice when the team found that when the flag was fitted to the car it actually made it go quicker and as there seemed to be nothing in the rules against chav flags on cars they decided to fit a brace each to Rubens Barrichello’s and Nico Hulkenbergs FW32’s.

Unfortunately, neither the Brazilian or the German wanted to play ball (no pun intended) and refused to drive with the England emblem on the car. They did however agree, that if England reached the World Cup Final, to be held the same day as the British Grand Prix, that they would allow the flags on the cars.

Don’t hold your breath…

Williams design a bit of car that can survive a Monaco weekend

According to his latest entry on Twitter, HRT driver, Karun Chandhok has been contacted by the Williams F1 team to confirm that despite him running over Rubens Barrichello’s steering wheel at 90 mph, that the £50,000 bit of kit survived… and still works.

Not only did Chandhok run over the wheel, discarded by an angry Rubens Barrichello after his shunt at Massenet, but he dragged it all the way down to the entrance to the tunnel where it came loose, only to be run over again, this time by Karun’s team mate, Bruno Senna.

After seeing two of his car’s totalled in the race, Sir Frank knows that at least one part is rock solid..

Rubens grabs first Williams win for nearly six years!

Rubens grabs first Williams win for nearly six years!

Williams F1 driver, Rubens Barrichello, is reported to be delighted after winning the first race for the team since Juan Pablo Montoya’s victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2004.

After four days, the results of the first Volcano Grand Prix… are in, with Barrichello being the first driver to get back home, arriving in Sao Paulo in a time of 25 hrs, 14 mins, 3.15 secs.

The Brazilian veteran finished a considerable way ahead of second placed Jaime Alguersuari who took 40 hrs, 19 mins, 8.98 secs to get back to Barcelona and third placed Mark Webber who took 44hrs, 5 mins, 9.88 secs to get the key in the door of his Oxford home.

Barrichello put his win down to an ash-avoiding one stop strategy with Emirates Airlines while Alguersuari and Webber both made upwards of five stops each.

Many other drivers are still en-route while some did not even make the start, preferring instead to relax on a Thai beach with a Japanese lingerie model.

As the unelected Lord Mandelson continues to annexe much of Whitehall, there is concern that he may have gone too far in announcing himself as a Williams driver for 2010.

Rosberg’s mum finds missing helmet

Rosberg’s mum finds missing helmet

The mystery surrounding the loss of Nico Rosbergs helmet has been solved, after his mum found it down the back of the sofa. Mrs Rosberg was doing the housework when she found the missing skid lid yesterday.

She said; “Nico… is a typical boy, always losing things, last week it was his Game Boy, this week the helmet and next week it will no doubt be something else”

Mrs R has already had to sew his Sparco race gloves to his overalls and has taken to sending Williams his dinner money in a sealed envelope.
