Timo Glock to start German Grand Prix in 34th place

Timo Glock to start German Grand Prix in 34th place

Virgin Racing are used to having a tough time at Grand Prix but today could be their hardest yet. While Lucas di Grassi, who gave qualifying a miss, is starting at the back of the grid, behind even Sakon Yamamoto, his team mate, Timo Glock, is starting further back in 34th place after being given a ten place drop by the stewards.

Glock was penalised five places for having a new gearbox fitted then, according to an official, another five were added “For a laugh”.

Timo will therefore start his home race at turn 12, the Mobil Kurve (arrowed), which means that if he does not get a hurry on, he could be lapped by Sebastian Vettel before the end of lap one.

Life’s a beach for Timo

Life’s a beach for Timo

No F1 news of note today so we thought we’d bring you this lovely shot of Timo Glock on the beach in Germany. We have to confess, we did not know Germany had any beaches but there you go. So… a quick Timo competition, winner gets a tube of Ambre Solair Factor 20 (opened) for the best caption. And gentlemen, please stop trying to check out his gorgeous girlfriend in the reflection of his sunglasses, we’ve tried and it doesn’t work.

“Timo get’s ready for the audition for the lead role in the new movie; “Mother Teresa, The Desert Years.” (Paul Bentley, Amersham, UK)

“The mystery of who stole Lucas di Grassi’s Y-fronts is solved.” (Sarah Davidson, Chard, Somerset, UK)

“Virgin bosses concerned that Glock seems to be growing a pair of legs from his right ear.” (Dan Webster, Bedford, UK)

“For the Virgin summer party, Timo Glock’s Lawrence of Arabia outfit proves to be a winner.” (Andrea Weston, Roanoke, USA)

AND THE WINNER: “Timo Glock is running for office as Pharaoh. Elections will be held after the season” (Bridget Schuil). Bridget did not say where she is from but she sounds a bit German, which is a shame for her, as the budget does not stretch to sending the prize abroad. Well done anyway Bridget!

Rubens is a champion at last!

Rubens is a champion at last!

Nineteen years after he won the British F3 Championship, Williams driver Rubens Barrichello is celebrating another title here in Canada.

Barrichello was last night crowned champion in the Celebrity Sushi Eating Championship, held for the first time in a Formula 1… paddock, after wolfing down two pounds of the Japanese snack in 3min 12secs.

The plucky Brazilian saw off stiff competition from local boy Jacques Villeneuve, who spun on a piece of Gunkanmaki early on and fellow F1 foodie, Timo Glock, who having had a Medieval banquet for lunch had to retire with just a small Fugu and a cucumber wrap to go.

Ready, Steady, Glock! - The winner is Kathyrn Bird!

Ready, Steady, Glock! - The winner is Kathyrn Bird!

After sifting through hundreds of ideas as to what Timo Glock will have for his tea at the weekend we settled on a two course meal from Kathryn Bird. We were inundated with so many salads and pastas and we… liked Kathryn’s assertion that Timo “Could do with a decent meal”.

Timo’s girlfriend, Isabell, will cook the meal, the man himself will photo it for Twitter and then get stuck in. Kathryn wins some goodies from Virgin Racing and for good measure Timo will autograph the recipe.

Here it is…

Kathryn Bird’s Marinated Chicken with Virgin Olive Oil

For Timo Glock

Prepared by his lovely young lady, Isabell Doreen

Ingredients - Serves 4 (Timo, this means you can share some if you wish)

4 chicken breasts, scored in a criss cross pattern

2 tbsp Virgin olive oil

1 courgette, cut into long thin strips with a peeler

1 pepper, deseeded and finely diced

2 pak choi / spinach

Salt and pepper

Marinade

Bunch of spring onions

2 tbsp honey

2 red chillies, deseeded and chopped

4 tbsp soy sauce

2 tsp fresh ginger

Basil

How to prepare

First of all, Isabell, send Timo to the supermarket to get the above ingredients. Remember, he is a man, so you must give him a clear list. When he gets back, get him to rest on the sofa with a beer and get yourself in the kitchen. There is no time to waste, he’ll be hungry after all that shopping.

Preheat oven to 200c

Mix marinade ingredients in a bowl and pour over the chicken. Leave to marinade for 30 minutes. This gives you plenty of time to make sure Timo is fine, take him another beer and see if he needs you to switch the TV over.

Scrape the marinade from chicken and put to one side.

Heat the oil in a pan until very hot and fry chicken until golden. Add the rest of the ingredients and the marinade. Season well and cover with foil.

Bake for 20 minutes.

Serve with rice, noodles or drop the whole health thing and go for chips.

After this, your man may want to put his feet up but there is no rest for you. Get the first lot of washing up done and then get cracking with the pudding..

Timo’s Truffle Chocolate Puddings

Ingredients - Serves 6 (remember Timo, it is the Canadian Grand Prix next week so take it easy, a moment on the lips means a lifetime on the hips)

150g unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing

150g caster sugar, plus extra for coating

150g dark chocolate

3 large eggs

50g plain flour, sifted

6 chocolate truffles

Double cream, to serve

How to prepare

Leave the oven at 200c

Lightly grease 6 x 150ml ramekins with butter, fill with caster sugar, rotate and empty until fully coated with sugar.

On a very low heat, melt the chocolate and butter together, stirring occasionally, then set aside to cool slightly. Check Timo is still ok, he may be asleep in front of the TV by now. If so, gently prod with a rolled up newspaper.

Gradually whisk the sugar into the eggs until pale and thick.

Stir the chocolate into the egg mixture and fold in the flour.

Spoon half the mixture into the ramekins, drop a truffle into the middle of each one and top with the remaining mixture. Transfer to a baking tray and bake for 10-12 minutes or until risen and coming away from the edges.

Do not worry if you have any puddings left (which may be doubtful) as they will keep. Pop them into a plastic container and Timo can take them to Canada. They will keep him going on the long flight and he may even have some to share with his friend at work, that nice Lucas di Grassi chap.

(With thanks to Timo, Isabell and Virgin Racing for being such good sports!)

It’s Ready, Steady, Glock - The Final!

It’s Ready, Steady, Glock - The Final!

For some time we have been delighted to bring you recipes from F1’s resident food expert, Timo Glock, a man who believes in photographing anything and everything he is about to consume.

Recipes from the Virgin Racing star include the tricky… ‘Pizza mit der ham und mushrooms und olives’  to the sublime ‘Double chocolate cake mit Ice Cream’ to his ‘Tomatoes on bread’ (not one of his best it has to be said) with more variations of salad than you can shake a stick at.

Now the dinner tables are turned and this weekend Timo and his delightful young lady, Isa, are going to prepare and then post a photo at @realTimoGlock of a recipe chosen by one of YOU.

We are in the process of tapping up Virgin for a prize but if they don’t come up with the goods we’ll find something suitable for the winning recipe.

Timo and Isa will be going shopping on Friday so please send us your recipe NOW. Being a healthy sort of chap he says he likes pasta and salad but don’t let that hold you back, remember he has agreed to tuck in to what we choose.

Email your choice entitled: ‘Look What Timo Is Having For His Tea’ to rob@grandprixdiary.com  and we’ll choose the winner on Wednesday evening.

Beer, Sex and a Smoke – Jaime is the new James Hunt!

Beer, Sex and a Smoke – Jaime is the new James Hunt!

There are three F1 drivers who enjoy nothing more than uploading photograph’s on to Twitter. Karun Chandhok (@karunchandhok) is the artistic type, posting well shot pictures of whatever building he happens to be passing at the time.

Timo Glock (@realTimoGlock) will upload a photo of anything he is about to eat, while Jaime Alguersuari (@jaimealguersuar) has what can only be described as Twitter-Tourettes, snapping at anything and everything he comes across.

However, his latest piece of work ‘Boy in a bedroom’, taken during a promotional visit to Santo Domingo, is hot favourite to scoop this years prestigious ‘Turner Prize’. One of the judges, Kempston Hardwick, said “The juxtaposition of the beer, representing the anticipation of the sex with super sensitive condoms along with the almost phallic qualities of the post-coital cigar is pure genius”.

We ask Jaime what he thought his chances of winning the prize were only to discover that five minutes after entering the room all of the contents of the box had been used.

What a sexy pair of Virgins

What a sexy pair of Virgins

Sebastian Vettel started the craze for giving race car’s girls names last year, when he christened his Red Bull racer ‘Kate’, who was then followed by the raunchy ‘Kates Dirty Sister’ and this year he gives ‘Luscious Liz’ a good… seeing to once a fortnight.

Never ones to miss a trick, Virgin Racing have also given their cars the feminine touch and after much anticipation they have come up with the decidedly staid ‘Veronica’ and ‘Virginia’ which sounds more like a pair of old ladies in a care home than some hot little nymph.

Still, while Timo Glock’s Virginia is on a Saga holiday in Turkey, Veronica is back in the UK having an operation on her waterworks so she can perform for Lucas di Grassi without conking out, so maybe the old lady analogy is not so far fetched after all.

Ready, Steady, Glock!

Ready, Steady, Glock!

In his third and final column for Grand Prix Diary, Twitter’s resident food obsessive, Timo Glock, brings you another of his favourite recipes.

Today the big boned German shows how to prepare ‘Pizza mit der ham und mushrooms und olives’:
