Petrov reveals why Grosjean got the push

According to new Renault signing, Vitaly Petrov, the reason Romain Grosjean was not retained by the French team for 2010 was because he made a mistake by joining the team half way through the season.

While most people think Romain got… his marching orders was because he was just plain rubbish, Vitaly has his own theory.

Petrov says “It was a mistake, a team asked me to race in mid 2009 and I said no, it is necessary to start with a whole season ahead.”

Petrov however is not rubbish, Renault rate him so highly they only want him to pay 15 million Euros to drive their car for a year and will drop him quicker than you can say glasnost should he not have the money in the bank by next Monday.

What did the Romains ever do for us?

What did the Romains ever do for us?

Looking back on his seven Grand Prix in 2009, Renault stand-in, Romain Grosjean, says on his website, “I have the feeling I could have done a little better.” A little better? Don’t hold back on the self criticism there Romain…

Romain Grosjean Caption Competition

Time for another caption competition, this time featuring French plodder, Romain Grosjean. Send in your entries and we’ll put the best up. The most suitably denigrating caption wins a pair of tickets to next years Donington Grand Prix and a… packet of Walkers French Fries.

When we saw, on Romain Grosjean’s personal website, that you could request a signed photograph of the ginger legend, we’d have one of those, it would cover that nasty stain the office wall left from the Christmas party.  So we filled in the form and we waited. And waited. Then we waited some more. Today, we received this email:

Dear All,

Following many requests of autograph, we have to set up a technical solution in order to answer positively to all.

Consequently, you will find enclosed a signed photo.

Thank you for your interest.

Romain GROSJEAN

Now call us ungrateful if you like, but a photograph, signed once, then emailed to anybody who wants it is hardly going to impress the blokes down the pub is it?

Git.

Grosjean’s bit on the side

Grosjean's bit on the side

With the arduous task of having to drive a car around for a bit every fortnight, you would have thought that F1 drivers have little spare time for anything else. Not so, as when he is not putting Brazilians out… of work, Renault pedaller, Romain Grosjean, is a banker.

We have already reported about Timo Glock’s sideline as a scaffolder and now we can reveal that Romain has a part time job at a Geneva bank* where he is in charge of keeping the cash machine operational and watering the pot plants.

Say’s Grosjean; “On the Tuesday after the Valencia race, I went back to work at the bank to keep in touch with reality,  I think it’s important to continue like this as I enjoy working there and this routine has always worked well for me in the past.”

Mind you, being the No2 driver at Renault has never been a job with much long term security, so maybe Romain is sensible in keeping his options open.

*Renault themselves confirm that Romain still has a job at a bank but we think this is just an example of the legendary humour of the French. Watch this space.

Buemi has a close shave

Buemi has a close shave

Valencia. While Romain Grosjean is about to debut the worst hairstyle in F1 since Minardi mop top, Fabrizio Barbazza, gave us the wild man look in 1993, spare a thought for Toro Rosso star Sebastien Buemi, who due to a… misunderstanding with his barber is now incapable of a hairdo of any sort.

Buemi visited a barbershop near the team factory in Faenza on Tuesday for a quick tidy up, but translation problems with the snipper resulted in a scalping that means that he’ll have to keep his noddle covered all weekend or face breaking out the factor 60.

Could be just the one weekend he does not want to get on the podium…

Almost everything you ever wanted to know about Romain Grosjean

Almost everything you ever wanted to know about Romain Grosjean

With the news that Renault have officially announced a replacement for the tardy Brazilian,we checked out Romain Grosjean’s personal website to find out more about Flavio Briatore’s new whipping boy. Sadly, the website is about as revealing as a Taliban… bride in a burka, as these illuminating questions and answers from his ‘Lifestyle’ section show, reproduced here in full ‘Franglais’:

Q: If you could share a diner with some celebrities, who would they be?

A: I already had such opportunities

Q: Best memory since you race?

A: I loved all the decisive races

Q: Your favorite drivers:?

A: All the best drivers have something that make them special

Q: Salted or sweet?

A: Both because I am fond of good food

Q: Your favorite kind of music?

A: I almost like everything

Q: Your favorite video game?

A: Lots of them

Q: Tea or coffee?

A: Both

Romain has dual Swiss and French nationality, we can only assume the dull part of him is the Swiss bit….
