Raikkonen’s Renault Effect

The news that Kimi Raikkonen will not be joining the Renault F1 team next year has not gone down well with the French companies car dealers.

Wolverhampton dealer, Darren Owens, 43, told us yesterday that since the news of Raikkonen’s possible… move broke last week, interest has increased considerably, with one couple expressing an interest in a Modus and one man even taking away a leaflet on the Twingo.

Said Owens; “Shifting cars in the recession is not easy, it’s even more difficult when those cars are Renault’s so we need all the help we can get and the prospect of Kimi being a Renault driver was very exciting.”

He added, “We have had posters up around the place of Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov and frankly Petrov looks like a zombie, which tends to put people off, while Kubica’s fizzog scares small children, at least Kimi is bearable to look at.”

“We are all very dissapointed.”

This remarkable feat eclipses his previous record of 19 words in 11.89 seconds after he won the 2005 Spanish Grand Prix. After being given oxygen and having a little rest, Raikkonen was reported to be back to his old self.

Exclusive - Why Kimi had to go

The truth about why Ferrari sacked Kimi Raikkonen emerged today, as reports in the Italian press allege the team could no longer afford to fund his large hat habit. By the end of this season Kimi already had the biggest… baseball cap in Europe and as part of his 2010 retainer with the Scuderia he was insisting on an American style 10 gallon cap raising to one big enough to sleep in for 2011.

Mercedes and McLaren have also both failed to meet the Finn’s headwear demands meaning that he is likely to go off to the World Rally Championship where silly hats are positively encouraged.
