Swindon man key to second Button championship?
In his quest to retain his world title, Jenson Button is prepared to make sacrifices and some of them are quite big. For example, instead of joining girlfriend Jessica Michibata for a beach holiday in Thailand after the Malaysian Grand… Prix, he chose instead to fly back home to work out on McLaren’s race simulator.
This meant Jessica would be all alone on holiday and this was too much for McLaren fan, Barry Howard of Swindon, UK who has volunteered to give up his own time to fly out to Phuket to make sure Jessica is looked after.
Howard, 44, said today, “I am prepared to do anything, no matter how tough it may be, to help Jenson get back-to-back titles and if it means spending hours rubbing factor 10 into Jessica Michibata by the pool of a five star hotel then so be it”
Barry is hopeful that if he gets the ok from his parole officer he should be on his way before the weekend.
It’s official - Castrol Oil Driver Rankings are mental.
Sebastian Vettel finished ahead Jenson Button in the Bahrain Grand Prix but it was Button who went to the top of the Castrol Driver Rankings. Now, Button wins the Australian round with Vettel out on lap 25, yet now the… German moves to the top of the leader board.
Make sense? No, thought not.

Despite being the worst performing of the four world champions in the Bahrain Grand Prix, Jenson Button still leads the Castrol Driver Rankings with race winner Fernando Alonso not even in the top 10. That makes sense then.

Around this time last year, Vodafone came up with an amusing video which featured Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen as taxi drivers. This year Walkers Crisps have come up with a not so amusing video featuring Jenson Button as a… taxi driver.
Wonder how long it took to come up with that one?
A bridge too far for Button?
During Jenson Button’s doldrum years, ie; His entire F1 career before Brawn came along, his home town of Frome, Somerset, really wasn’t that bothered with him. However, now he is world champion, the local council have (like Stevenage Council did… with Lewis Hamilton) found themselves a bandwagon and without a hint of shame have jumped right on it.
The town’s Mayor, Damon Hooton (they have names like that in the West Country) has proudly announced that Jenson Button will have a new bridge named after him. At first glance, this seems quite impressive until you realise it is a little footbridge and it was planned for construction long before Button triumphed in Brazil last year.
Mayor Hooton admits, “The bridge is going to be built anyway, so we decided to name it after him and we’ll put a little plaque on it and give him a presentation scroll or something”.
That should tempt Button away from Monaco for the opening ceremony.
