Force India to recruit somebody who knows about tyres?

Following the mistake at the German Grand Prix, which saw Force India fit the wrong tyres to Vitantonio Liuzzi’s and Adrian Sutil’s cars, the team were in trouble again on Friday when they bolted the wrong set on to Paul… di Resta’s VJM03.

Watching events in Hungary unfolding on the television at home in Dewsbury, tyre fitter, Wayne Bunion decided to contact Force India to offer his services for the remainder of the season.

Said Wayne this morning; “People think fitting tyres is easy and that putting the right ones on the right car should be common sense but let me tell you it is not” He went on, “I once put a set of 205/65 R15’s on a Mini Metro when they should have been 205/60 R15’s so I know only too well the pressure these guys feel in the pitlane”

Bunion has written to Force India and says he is ready to step in from Spa onwards if he can get the time off work.

Force India, Lotus and now HRT all in dispute?

Force India, Lotus and now HRT all in dispute?

Force India are set to take the Lotus F1 team to court over a dispute over car design. It is alleged that when Lotus staff visited the Aerolab Facility, they found a wind tunnel model of a Force India car… and thought it might, if it was a bit bigger, make a decent car for the 2010 season.

‘WindTunnelModelGate’ is set to run and run but now there are rumblings that HRT may have similar issues of their own.

Spanish farmer, Diego de Campastilla, says that he rented a barn to HRT last winter and says that having seen how the team has performed so far this year, that they must have stolen the idea from something he had been developing at the time – Picture

Diego plans to have the HRT cars impounded when they arrive in Valencia for the European Grand Prix at the end of the month.

Force India leave Lotus behind

Force India leave Lotus behind

Air Asia and Lotus boss, Tony Fernandes and his driver Heikki Kovalainen, were left stranded after todays FIA press conference when the heavens opened, bringing down yet another downpour of serious rain. Although in a rush to get back to… the team, they had not brought an umbrella and could not risk being photographed under one belonging to rival airline, Kingfisher, as kindly offered by Force India pedaller, Tonio Liuzzi.

Fernandes seems to have thought of everything in getting his team up and running but despite being a local boy and being aware it does tend to rain from time to time in these parts, umbrella’s weren’t on the shopping list.

Bet they are now…

>Update: Just half an hour after we published this story a very embarrassed Force India spokesman contacted Grand Prix Diary to assure us that the… above link was auto-generated and that no intention to be disrespectful to Ian Phillips was meant. Glad that’s all cleared up then.

Your starter for ten - Vijay's University Challenge

Following in the footsteps of David Coulthard, who made an appearance last month, Force India boss, Dr Vijay Mallya, is to address the Oxford University Student Union on the 5th of March.

Let’s hope his chosen topic is not accountancy.

Australian GP imports some Glasgow glamour...

Australian Grand Prix organisers today confirmed that Simple Minds would be in attendance during the race weekend. At first it was thought they were talking about Ralf Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve who are rumoured to be turning up but it… turns out to be the wrinkly rockers from Scotland, who will play a post-race concert.

The band have said that they will dedicate their 1982 hit ‘Promised you a Miracle’ to Campos and USF1 should either of arrive Down Under while Force India will get a rendition of ‘Alive and Kicking’ should they beat their current accountancy problem.

Toyota WERE the best at something in F1

Toyota WERE the best at something in F1

Toyota may have spent years plodding around the midfield to little or no effect but at least its accounts department were the best in F1. According to a report by business analysts, Dun and Bradstreet, Toyota were the most reliable… team in F1 when it came to paying its bills on time, on average paying suppliers five days early.

The study, published in Auto Moto und Sport, says that other teams were not quite so quick to get the cheque book out, with McLaren taking around 26 days to cough up with Force India bottom of the grid on 66 days.

Well done Toyota – you showed ‘em.

Keen eyed Fifi mechanic has Lotus worried?

Keen eyed Fifi mechanic has Lotus worried?

When it was revealed that Force India were more than a little concerned that Lotus’ wind tunnel model of their proposed car for 2010 showed more than a passing resemblance to last years VJM01, Lotus were not overly worried.

Lotus… tech boss, Mike Gascoyne, said that any similarity was because “It has been designed by people who already have a good knowledge of the current F1 regulations through their work on previous projects.”

When it was then pointed out that a Force India mechanic had recognised his own handwriting on the models tyres, Mike apparently had to crack open a pack of these…
