Adopt an F1 team!

Adopt an F1 team!

These days you can, if you have a hole in your life to fill, ‘adopt’ anything from small children in faraway countries, to bored zoo animals, dolphins, monkeys and even trees, though it has to be said that a tree does… not really have much to give back for your affection.

Now, according to the latest rumour circulating regarding the budget cap yawn-athon, you can adopt a new Formula One team to help it cope during it’s early years. The plan is that the baby team will live with an established F1 outfit until it is big enough to get a place of its own.

Like adopting a child in Africa, you don’t actually have the hassle of looking after it or even having to bother going to see it. For your fee, you will get a certificate of adoption, regular pictures of the team growing up, and nice thank you letters until the novelty of the whole thing wears off and you decide the monkey would  have been more fun…

No budget cap for Niki

No budget cap for Niki

German newspaper ‘Zeit’, has today reported that the cost of the advertising space on the front of Niki Lauda’s famous red baseball cap, has rocketed up from the equivalent of 100,000 euros in 1976 to a whopping 1.2 million euros… this year.

According to our business editor, this is not down to inflation or the cost of living but the fee goes up annually in line with the amount of opinions Lauda spouts over the year.

2008 was a bumper year for Niki who provided 2,949 opinions (some of them asked for) in print, television interviews and in other media. There were 924 having a go at todays drivers, 845 about modern technology, 487 about racing ‘not being as difficult as it used to be’, 226 about the FIA and 467 other assorted gripes and moans.

Oh yacht a bore….

Oh yacht a bore....

Monaco, Friday. The future of Formula 1 will be decided at 2pm this afternoon, on a great big boat, parked up in the Monaco harbour, as the teams meet to discuss their alternative to Max Mosleys budget cap plans.

Normally, the traditional… day off in Monaco is for team bosses and personnel to drift from party to party (sorry, from sponsor event to sponsor event) not to sit in a hot cabin arguing about money.

Still, as the meeting is to be held on Flavio Briatore’s mega-yacht, Force Blue, it does give us a valid reason to use this picture again.

Just one month until the British Grand Prix - possibly the last one too, get your tickets here.
