Brawn in Brackley bus bonanza

Brawn in Brackley bus bonanza

Hundreds of wellwishers and unemployed people, lined the streets of Brackley yesterday to welcome the victorious Brawn team home. Sadly, Jenson Button was otherwise engaged with a lingerie model in Japan but a great day was still had by all.

We just… want to know which joker on the team decided to play with the numbers on the front of the bus…

Barrichello heading for Vegas?

Barrichello heading for Vegas?

In today’s ‘Daily Telegraph’, Brawn GP driver Rubens Barrichello boasts that he would have a better chance than Michael Schumacher if they had to fight a tiger. Ruben’s couldn’t beat Michael in six years as his team mate at Ferrari… but when it comes to tackling ferocious wild animals, the Brazilian reckons he is the man.

The claim has attracted attention from Las Vegas casino, Mirage, who have been looking for a replacement for their Siegfried and Roy tiger and magic show, which closed in 2003 when a white tiger called Montecore mistook Roy for lunch.

Should Rubens retire from F1, the multi-million dollar offer to host his own big cat show could be too much for him to resist.

Brawn not just quick on the track…

Brawn not just quick on the track...

According to reports, Ross Brawn is looking at a lengthy spell using taxis after he was spotted by the boys in blue, doing a ton on the A30 near Okehampton in Devon. Local sources confirmed the news, adding that a… 37 year old Brazilian in a following car had been going too slowly to be booked, but had been cautioned for constantly moaning that he had not been given a fair chance to go fast enough..

With Lewis Hamilton already a whopping 42 points behind Jenson Button, with only a quarter of the season gone, it seems that McLaren are considering giving up this year as a bit of a bad idea, to concentrate on preparing for 2010 instead. Thats $400 million well spent then.

According to Spanish newspaper ‘El Pais’, McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh reckons that the MP4-24 is not going to shine at aerodynamically-demanding tracks like next weekend’s Turkish GP venue.

So, it won’t work at fast, open tracks like Istanbul Park and it wasn’t too mesmerising around a non-aero circuit like Monaco either. OK – now we get the point about giving it all up for 2009.

With Mercedes apparently showing interest in branding the all conquering Brawn GP car, Whitmarsh applauds the success of the new team, but points out that the team’s car is based on former owner Honda’s efforts over 18 months, comprising “four wind tunnels and hundreds of millions of dollars“.

Sounds like a bit of an excuse to us, but Martin should look on the brightside. The management at Honda, who decided to ditch the F1 effort five minutes before the Brawn glory started, must be seriously more hacked off than he is…

Peace, love and sour grapes...

Former F1 world champion, Jacques Villeneuve, has complained at the lack of ‘warriors’ on the grid and that apparently there appears to be a lack of hate.

According to Germany’s ‘Sports Bild’ Villenueve said; “”I realised it last year, when Massa… was fighting Hamilton for the title that you didn’t get the impression that these guys wanted to win so badly that they actually hated each other”

So much for all that peace, love and understanding he warbled about on his last album. Villeneuve also revealed that while he is (almost) pleased at former team mate Jenson Button’s current success, he still manages to find a downside in the Brawn team that has its origins in the British American Racing (BAR) squad he was a founder member of.

“I’m happy for Jenson but I also see the team as a negative part of my past, a lot of my own money is still there as my manager Craig Pollock set up that team with some of my money as well”.

During his five years at BAR, Jacques was, after Michael Schumacher, the best paid driver in F1, in 2002 alone he trousered an estimated $21 million.

Difficult to feel sorry for him really….
