The shut down of the USF1 project has already started to have major implications on this side of the pond, with the closure of the UK’s first NASCAR team.
Following the announcement last year that USF1 were to create, base and… run a team in a country that could not stand F1, Yorkshire businessman, Dudley Ormanroyd, thought that there must be something to this mad plan that the rest of the world could not see and so decided to set up a UK based NASCAR operation.
Ormanroyd said today; “USF1 were our inspiration, we thought that if two seemingly intelligent blokes thought running an F1 team from America would work then why should it not work in reverse? We really thought running a NASCAR team from Barnsley was a good idea.”
He went on; “We did everything they did, we got a nice HQ (pictured) a posh website, we put out press releases about our preferred driver choices every bloody week in the Barnsley Chronicle, we got one of the lads to put up videos on YouTube of us stood around the workbench looking at spanners and stuff but it was not enough, we simply could not find sponsors or build a car, so it’s the end of a dream, I’m really gutted.”
