EXCLUSIVE - McLaren in new race fix probe

EXCLUSIVE - McLaren in new race fix probe

McLaren are at the centre of a new race fixing scandal after it emerged that they deliberately conspired to win the Singapore Grand Prix. According to our paddock source, a whistleblower at the team has given an inside account of… how the team made sure that it was they and nobody else that would win the race. The allegations are backed up by TV footage and radio transcripts and seem to show the following:

  • The team made sure, that in Saturday’s qualifying session they would end up quickest, therefore getting them pole position and an advantage over every other team on the grid.
  • In conjunction with their lead driver, they conspired to run a great race, making sure that their pit stops were perfect – showing that the plan involved everybody, from management right down to the mechanics.
  • Furthermore, it is alleged that the team have been working behind closed doors, in an attempt to make their car better than anybody elses.

Apparently, McLaren have indicated that they will not contest the allegations and have asked that the fine be added to their account.

Boring man ends boring run

Boring man ends boring run

The quiet man of F1, Nick Heidfeld (you know the guy, funny voice, silly sunglasses, big beard, drives for BMW?) was so angry on Sunday after Adrian Sutil punted him out of the Singapore Grand Prix, that he very nearly… raised his voice a semi-octave and some observers thought they saw him move an eyebrow.

Heidfeld, who had been in F1 for three years before anybody even noticed he was there, was on course for his forty second consecutive race finish when Sutil cut up his BMW (now there’s a nice change) ending both of their races.

Nick, positively fuming, said that he thought that in addition to giving his countryman a $20,000 fine, officials should also give him a brain.

He is assuming of course that the FIA have any spare brains, which given the events of the last week or so, has to be deemed unlikely.

Renault get away with it – McLaren fined again

At today’s meeting of the World Motorsport Council in Paris, Renault were asked if they would mind not fixing anymore races for the next two years. Meanwhile, McLaren have been handed a $50 million fine together with disqualification from the… Hungarian Grand Prix when evidence submitted, showed that they had parked two of their trucks in the wrong part of the Hungaroring paddock for a full five minutes.

A source described McLaren’s actions as ‘completely inexcusable’ and warned of further severe repercussions, possibly including the execution of selected team members, should they ever do anything even slightly wrong ever again.

Rumours that Nelson Piquet was ordered by Renault to crash during the 2008 Singapore GP have been described by a source close to the Brazilian as “utter bollocks” adding that he was “perfectly capable of crashing under his own initiative.”
