Sushi’s loss is Formula One’s gain

This time last year, Kamui Kobayashi was running out of funds and with no drive on the horizon, was preparing to return home to work in his fathers sushi restaurant.

Now however, after his performance in the Japanese Grand Prix, he… is an F1 superstar, though he does have a somewhat unique driving style which appears to be - to only overtake in corners and do it with your eyes shut and then see what happens.

This strategy worked well for him in Japan where he barged pass driver after driver in the race though Sauber engineers simply could not believe how their car stood up to such punishment.

Concerned that in 2011, alongside the plainly bonkers Kobayashi, they have a rookie in the form of Sergio Pérez, the design team are planning on a more robust approach for next years C30…

How next years Sauber C30 is expected to look.

Red Bull snatch victory after Lotus denied by BBC

Lotus are considering appealing to the stewards at the Japanese Grand Prix, after hopes of their first victory of 2010 were wrecked by a careless BBC camera man.

The team had a boat, steaming impressively down the Suzuka pitlane, until a BBC… crew member, trod on it, much to the dismay of a watching Heikki Kovalainen.

As the boat started to disintegrate, it was overtaken by Red Bull’s vessel (below), though this is also subject to a stewards investigation as the cans were seen to be flexing as it moved.
