“You are just an employee, Can you confirm you understand the message?”

While most eyes at the German Grand Prix were on the Ferrari duo spoiling the race up at the front, one driver a bit further down the road was having more than enough troubles of his own.
Renault’s Vitaly Petrov was… doing his usual job, tooling around somewhere outside the top ten, when he received a stern telling off from his team, handily broadcast to tens of millions of TV viewers.
Vitaly was told; “You MUST concentrate on shifting early to seventh gear, you must do this PROPERLY Vitaly, if you don’t we will have to turn your revs down and there will be NO television before you go to bed tonight”.
After the race Petrov was sent out the back of the garage and made to sit on the naughty step to think about what a really bad little boy he had been.
Still, he probably got off lightly compared to HRT plodder, Sakon Yamamoto, who according to some reports started the race with his pitlane limiter on and then ended his day by hitting the fire switch rather than the brake bias, which cut all power to the engine.
And they hired him for performance reasons?

We have been passed what could possibly be a genuine transcript of the pit to car radio transmission at the German Grand Prix between Ferrari race engineer, Rob Smedley, and their number two driver, Felipe Massa.
We join the action on lap… 47 as Smedley calls on Massa..
Rob Smedley: “Aye oop lad, how’s tha doing out there?”
Felipe Massa: “OK, car is good, I’m really motoring here”
RS: “Great lad, cracking, but why not take it easy a bit, you know, chill baby”
FM: “No, I push, Fernando is close”
RS: “Aye, but driving quickly isn’t all it’s cracked up to be is it? Why not ease up a bit and take in the scenery, maybe stop for a sandwich?”
FM: “You crazy? Alonso is all over me, do I need to push more?”
RS: “Look lad, ordinarily yes, but don’t you think it would be a nice idea to look after the car a bit, it’s a dead expensive bit of kit and you really don’t want to thrash it all afternoon do you?”
FM: “What are you saying?”
RS: “Oh fer chrissakes man, will yer just bloody well pull over and let Alonso past, Jeez, have you finally understood the message.”
FM: “Oh *#%+ it!”

Virgin Racing are used to having a tough time at Grand Prix but today could be their hardest yet. While Lucas di Grassi, who gave qualifying a miss, is starting at the back of the grid, behind even Sakon Yamamoto, his team mate, Timo Glock, is starting further back in 34th place after being given a ten place drop by the stewards.
Glock was penalised five places for having a new gearbox fitted then, according to an official, another five were added “For a laugh”.
Timo will therefore start his home race at turn 12, the Mobil Kurve (arrowed), which means that if he does not get a hurry on, he could be lapped by Sebastian Vettel before the end of lap one.

Sebastian Vettel’s German GP week did not get off to the best of starts, when he injured a leg while out training. However, Vettel was reassured when Red Bull boss, Christian Horner, said he could use one of Mark Webbers.
